FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On October 23, 2008, the Fowler Fire Department (volunteer) received the “Gift of Sight”, a Thermal Imaging Camera from the Firefighters Save a Life Fund. These cameras enable firefighters to see throug h dense smoke to rescue people and avoid dangerous situations. Denis Ciccarelli, the Sales Territory Manager at Mallory Fire, was in Fowler to personally present the Thermal Imaging Camera to the Fowler Fire Department, represented by Manuel Lopez, Jr., Mark Hurst and Gary Black.
“The Firefighters Save a Life Fund (FSLF) was formed to honor two firefighters who were killed in Pittston, Pennsylvania on March 15, 1993. They fell to their deaths when a fire below weakened the floor and it collapsed, dropping them into the inferno. The Thermal Imaging Cameras would have saved them because they would have “seen” the fire’s presence before entering the building” (taken from www.fsalf.org). The FSLF offers Thermal Imaging Cameras to volunteer fire departments at a fraction of the cost. Lopez was instrumental in maintaining contact with Mr. Ciccarelli, who had submitted an application naming the Fowler Fire Department as a recipient for a Thermal Imaging Camera about 1½ - 2 years ago. “We are very fortunate to have received this camera. It will help us locate people and pets trapped in a fire, saving more lives”, said Lopez.
The Fowler Fire Department will be the last department to receive a Thermal Imaging Camera from the FSALF. The President, Patrick Walsh, has moved out of state and could not find anyone to take over the operation of Firefighters Save A Life Fund. |
